"I have been working at Ashworth Hospital as the Food Hygienist for 9 nine years more recently becoming part of a wider Mental Health Trust, Mersery Care NHS Trust. As part of my role I was responsible for the Induction and Mandatory training throughout the Trust along with the day to day risk management for food hygiene/safety. In February 2005 I was successful in obtaining this post as the Centre Manager.
I became a Union Learning Representative in September 2001, "to promote lifelong learning to staff who have not had the opportunities for learning before". As Union Learning Representatives we have asked members of staff what they want and recognized this and over time have tried to provide courses they have requested i.e. NVQ's in Business Admin, Customer Services and Domestic skills, as well as Spanish, Interview Skills and British Sign Language. I am very much involved with Partnership Learning and have strong links with Knowsley Associates and Knowsley College and working as a Union Learning Representative this helps my links within the Trust and the TUC.
I wanted to carry on as a Union Learning Rep, being involved with all types of training, now as the Centre Manager I can be a strong implamentor in making sure that training opportunities are available to staff. One of my abitions was to see the role of the Union Learning Representative integrated as part of the Training and Development teams for the Trust and everyone working in partnership", this has now been made a reality. I believe in Lifelong Learning and I have always been looking for ways to improve myself, I have done several courses over the year including Workforce Development, Stage 1 Stewards, 7307, recently completed my Cert Ed, Introduction to First Line Management and I am currently working towards my Diploma in ILM.
I feel that Personal Development is the way forward and I feel that it should be available to everyone." |
