1988, my first initial work experience, Secretary for a Petrochemical Design Drafting company. During my time I was responsible for a wide range of areas from the accounts to tea making! I also studied for my BTEC National certificate in Business and Finance.
1990 Wanderlust overtook me and I left the island and went to work in the equestrian industry. During this time I was able to visit many different countries, all in the name of looking after Olympic Equestrians. The highlight of this being the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, U.S.A.
I returned home in 1998 and started a H.N.D in Business. The successful completion of this and an encouraging shove from one of my course lecturers led me into the challenging world of Prison Education.
During my five years in Prison Education I have taught in all sections of the curriculum, the two main areas I have focused on have been Adult Literacy and Numeracy and also Drug and Alcohol Awareness. Towards the end of my time in H.M.P. Camphill I also worked part time in the Resettlement Unit assisting with processing of prisoners due for release and also assisting with the Harm Minimisation classes. |
