Name of Winner 2008:
Jackie Burke OSG,
High Down Union Learning Centre,
Jackie has been a very active ULR for the Union Learning Centre for 3 years. Jackie is an OSG in the demanding CES department handling over 25,000 items per week. A very busy post but still makes time for her ULR Role.
She has ensured that her own training is adequate for the role as ULR by achieving IAG2, 9297 C&G Teacher Support, Diversity Level 2, Deaf Awareness level1 and ACCT Trainer and supporter. This is a huge achievement considering all the other roles she provides the Centre plus all the other softer learning courses she attends. (Spanish, Arabic, Weight-watchers/Bums & Tums)
For example, Jackie gives up her own time to help me run Face Painting Days, Children Kraft Days, Children’s Outings, Charity events, Christmas parties all for staff and their families. She helps me run the Learning at Work Days whizzing up over 200 Healthy Living juices using fruit and vegetables. Then she remains behind to help clear up the debris from all the other activities such as Hanging Basket making, cleaning the BBQ, staff mess and outside areas plus answering all the questions from staff about Learning. 240 staff have attended the LAW days in the past 2 years.
This has a large impact on time given up to the Centre over weekends and days off.
On duty, Jackie talks to staff about the centre openly encouraging them to come back into the Learning environment. She is a very Bright Star!!! |
