The Learning Centre is based within the Staff Development Department, in the outside Facility Building at HMP Frankland. The Centre is for the use of Staff, Families and Friends of HMP Frankland and Low Newton staff, discussions are ongoing to include HMP Durham in the future.

We have 3 Union Learning Representatives at Frankland Shiela Taylor (PCS), Andrea O’Connell (RCN) and Stewart Herkes (POA), at Low Newton we have Emma Guthrie (POA) all are available to offer Information, Advice and Guidance.

Wednesday 08.00 to 16.00

Thursday 08.00 to 20.00

Friday 08.00 to 12.00

Monday to Thursday includes Lunchtimes.

The Centre offers Numeracy and Literacy assessments, Spanish for Beginners, Italian for Beginners, Introduction to Sign Language and Computers for Beginners. In the future we hope to introduce intermediate courses for all of the above, as well as a Yoga course.
