EASTCHURCH LEARNING CENTRE

FIRST - MONTHLY NEWS LETTER

I am so pleased to inform you all that I have now taken up my post as the Eastchurch Learning Centre Manager. I am very keen to make a success of the learning centre and I really hope the centre can offer you all something valuable.

The POA Learning came into existence in 2003. The main aims of the project are to provide access to life long learning opportunities for all Criminal Justice staff, supported by an active network of union learning reps. We will help improve literacy, numeracy, communication and IT skills; ensuring staff and their families have access to quality learning opportunities.

I will be publishing a monthly newsletter in the last week of each month updating you all with the Learning Centre’s past months activities and the classes and courses on offer for each forthcoming month. I would like to stress that the centre is for all staff and your families.

Although we don’t have a dedicated learning centre yet the Governors and the CEO are very supportive and are working hard to find us accommodation. Meanwhile we have been offered various locations.

I.T COURSE

Day and time to be arranged but I am looking to start this in September

As an evening class suggested time 18:00 hours – 20:00 hours

Learning Pod Standford Hill

A Tutor from Lewisham college will run a ten week I.T course, for staff.

Due to the learning pod being within Standford Hill grounds family member will be able to attend this course as long as they are accompanied by a prison staff employee.

Access to the learning pod during the evening would be more consistent due to the learning pod being used by the gym during the day but if anyone would like to attend a day class please let me know and I will try and arrange this.

I am limiting the class size to 10 per class and I am anticipating high interest so I would advise registering your interest ASAP.

Please contact me if you are interested in this FREE course:-
