SDC10031.JPGIt was a very busy week on the Isle of Sheppey prisons in Adult Learners week 19-23rd May, when alongside Test the Prison being carried out, consecutive events  to promote Adult Learning were held in the three prisons.

Haverigg Key Learning Centre Re-launch PDF Print E-mail

In October/November 2005 Haverigg Key Learning Centre moved into a different part of the building that it occupied. It was decided that a re-launch of the centre would be held to promote the 'new centre'. This was held on Monday 5th June 2006.

Princess Anne visits HMP High Down Union learning centre PDF Print E-mail

Wednesday, January 18th 2006 arrived with rain, grey skies and gusts of wind but when HRH Princess Anne, The Princess Royal arrived by helicopter at the gates of HMP High Down, the staff felt that the sun was shining at last.

The Princess Royal had come to officially open the High Down Union Learning Centre. This centre is a union led initiative to help to refresh the skills or to up-skill staff in the workplace. High Down Union Learning Centre is the eighth centre to open for prison workers and their families in England and Wales. Andy Rowett is the Project manager.

HMP Nottingham Union Learning Centre Official Opening PDF Print E-mail
The cente was opened by the Lord Chief Justice, Lord Woolf on the 8th of December 2005. Lord Woolf stated that he was impressed with the centre and its facilities, and also with the work that the POA Union Learning Fund was doing with Prison Staff.

The event was attended by over 80 people, including Colin Moses, Steve Gough, the Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, the Mayor of Nottingham and representatives from South Nottingham College.
